blackSTORY films is a production company dedicated to celebrating the authentic souls of Black folk through dynamic storytelling. That is our WEB DuBois way of explaining things. The simpler explanation of our agenda is that we seek to develop vivid and intriguing women-led dramedies, free of cliché and brimming with verve.

We are artists who think extensively about black creativity, its commercialization, and how it affects our global plights. We're also creatives who think about dating, friendships, and community and how the quality of those factors greatly shape our lives.

Founded in 2013 by Rahwa Asmerom with Essence Ward, blackSTORY films has produced the short film dramedy Didn't I Ask For Tea?,  the webseries Conversating While Black, and the series pilot Say It Louder. We are currently in pre-production on three feature films including the dramedies Maya vs. Settling, Clinically Romantic, and the satire The Summer is Mine.
